I manage production scheduling for a printer or studio.
At any one time, I'm looking after many jobs, for multiple clients. It's my job to ensure that we hit their marketing campaign deadlines. My problem is that it's hard to schedule.
If my studio is doing the design, the briefs usually arrive late. If the client is providing the artwork themselves, it's rarely delivered on time. In either case, the pressure is on us to make up the lost time.
I know that one of the most common delays is in getting prompt approval of artwork. If only I could get transparency of the approval progress, I could schedule much more realistically, and avoid the rush jobs that help no-one. My other problem is my client's tendency to query modification and proofing costs, which have increased during the recession. This often results in me compromising on costs.
